 I've tried adding the key they suggest. It helps, a lot, but also doubles
 the amount of space required for indexes. It also means that the index for
 that table is larger than the data.
 Storage is cheap but when you have thousands of blogs it builds up.

 This only affects queries for category urls, not single post, or front
 page queries.

 Ryan's looking into it as it's an enhancement that would benefit WordPress
 core too.
