Comment:

 Check your MySQL wait_timeout variable. What is it set to. It's likely
 that it's way too low. Try setting it to 600 or higher. The solution
 offered by the link above suggests not reusing an existing connection but
 that doesn't make sense and would severely reduce performance on your
 server.
