 The recent posts widget appears to change the $post global variable.

 On themes like Tarski (wpcom), this means comments are not displayed
 properly and comment forms are for the wrong post.

 adding a call to the_post() at the end of function
 wp_widget_recent_entries($args) seems to be quick fix?
