Comment:

 The default styling probably should not change after the theme has been
 publicly available (for ten years). In this case, the
 [https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/twenty-sixteen/#customize
 theme documentation] even shows the image caption text aligned to the left
 (in a left-to-right language).

 The Gutenberg repository has an old issue about adding text alignment
 controls for captions:
