 I'm not sure I fully understand what @SirLouen results were? Does the
 question mean that it doesn't work or they are unsure if it works?.
 Regardless, I do think that this is a good feature to add.

 In our case, we basically maintain a platform for clients to provide a
 more low-cost option for non-profits. We update that platform with plugins
 which are symlinked to their actual site. Sometimes people end up deleting
 the plugins that are _shared_ and thus the files in the symlink are
 completed removed.

 Even if we had a `DEFINE` that would regulate the switching on/off of this
 it could be really helpful as a means to prevent symlink content from
 being deleted.

 I can't attend for other file systems though.
