Comment:

 I think Akismet API registration belongs in the plugin, per
 [https://make.wordpress.org/core/2026/02/03/proposal-for-merging-wp-ai-
 client-into-wordpress-7-0/#comment-48384 Matt's comment on the AI client
 merbe proposal]:

 > Akismet (and other plugins) should register their keys to be on this
 page, so instead of users having to go around a bunch of different menu
 areas there is one place for all of this. A single page where you can see
 all the things your WordPress is connected to. Premium plugins could also
 register on this screen.

 Akismet can easily be removed from an install and replaced by another
 anti-spam solution. Some of which also require an API key.

 If the requirement is for other plugins to register their own key, the
 same should apply for Akismet.

 r62193 should be reverted asap.
