That sounds like a solid and practical approach.
Trimming unused and outdated workflow files for older branches makes sense
— it helps keep maintenance cleaner and more efficient. Removing the

performance.yml
== workflow is also reasonable, given that performance tracking is mainly
relevant for trunk and the latest major branch.
Reducing the PHPUnit test matrices to boundary versions should
significantly cut down workflow time and resource usage without
compromising reliability. It’s a smart balance between test coverage and
efficiency, especially when managing multiple backports.
