Comment:

 At just a few days before the release, it's probably good to get a few
 more eyes and agreement on it. But to me this looks straightforward: let's
 simply revert this problematic one line as suggested and reopen #63561.
 The other changes in that commit don't depend on it being `required`, so
 it looks good to me.
