 @elvismdev thanks for the detailed bug report, sample images and PR! I'm
 just catching up here, however it sounds like you all have tracked down
 the source of the pug and come up with a reasonable, reliable solution.

 It would be good to include a new unit test with an image that currently
 gets handled incorrectly (such as the sample image on the ticket). After
 the patch, the output images should be full color.
