Dear WordPress Core Team,
I would like to propose an enhancement to the WordPress user management
system by introducing an Admin Notes feature for users in the dashboard.
Currently, there is no built-in way for administrators to store and manage
private notes about users. Many website administrators rely on third-party
plugins or external tools to keep track of user-related information, which
can be inefficient and fragmented.
Proposed Functionality:
Admin Notes Section: A new meta field in the user profile where
administrators can add and view private notes.
Permissions: Only users with administrator privileges should be able to
view and manage these notes.
Editing & Deletion: The ability to edit, update, and delete notes as
needed.
Timestamp & Author Tracking: Optionally, each note can include a timestamp
and the admin user who created it.
Search & Filter Integration: Admins should be able to search for users
based on keywords in their notes.
Optional: Notes History: A log of previous notes to track changes over
time.
Use Cases:
Membership Sites: Admins can store internal notes about user behavior,
support history, or membership status.
E-Commerce (WooCommerce): Store notes regarding a customer's purchase
history, disputes, or VIP status.
Multi-Author Blogs: Editors can leave internal feedback about
contributors.
Educational Platforms: Notes about student progress or issues can be
recorded for better tracking.
Why This Should Be in Core:
Enhances User Management: Provides a built-in way to store relevant
information about users without needing third-party plugins.
Improves Administrative Efficiency: Reduces reliance on external
spreadsheets or disconnected tools.
Better Collaboration: Multiple admins can keep track of internal user
notes across different roles.
I believe this feature would greatly benefit the WordPress community and
improve the overall user management experience. Thank you for considering
this enhancement request.
Best regards,
Seyyed Ahmadreza Mahjoob
