 I still really do not think this is the right place for the data for the
 reasons previously stated. So I guess my question is what is the pressure
 for moving this bit of data to the REST API for 6.8? It looks like there
 are a number of things that are still in the [https://github.com/WordPress
 /wordpress-develop/blob/4452b6707e1ce4beb908dfd889cf5f873e7ee67a/src/wp-
 admin/site-editor.php#L143 custom settings array], so it's not like we are
 getting away from it entirely.
