Comment:

 I've changed the milestone to ''Future Release''.

 The current status (all associated commits currently merged to trunk) are
 fine to ship in 6.8. The implementation and feature are not public and
 there are no behavioral changes at this time.

 There are some design and implementation questions that need to be
 revisited and reconsidered before opening up the feature publicly.

 I don't expect the continuing work in [https://github.com/WordPress
 /wordpress-develop/pull/7912 PR 7912] to be included in 6.8.
