Comment:

 This was done intentionally, as @sabernhardt states. Removing the `role`
 would introduce an accessibility problem. The `h1` was only kept here to
 avoid breaking downstream styling by extenders, the content itself is not
 a heading, and should not be marked up as one.

 The fact that it contains semantic content (a link) isn't relevant to what
 type of content the wrapper is; you may have been thinking of `aria-
 hidden`, which *would* be a problem.
