 I worked on a [https://github.com/sabernhardt/esr-icon-support temporary
 plugin] to apply changes from PR 10636 as inline styles, though I am not
 convinced that it is ready for installing on production sites. You could
 still test the plugin version on a staging site (if you cannot test the PR
 itself in a trunk installation).

 The styles are added inline instead of replacing the entire files because
 some of the stylesheets use relative URLs for background images.
