 message?  Or does it appear to work without errors, but then the email
 simply never shows up in your inbox?

 You may want to try using the [https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/
 Health Check & Troubleshooting] plugin - it has a tool for sending email
 and (sometimes) diagnosing errors.
