 @audrasjb please accept my apology for not following up after your merge
 and comment.

 since @jonsurrell’s changes are merged, are we talking about extending
 more broadly //all// custom data attributes? I think that would be a nice
 direction to take it as I’m not aware of any concerns with allowing those
 — browsers do not interpret them.
