 @Necarie thanks for your report and welcome to the WordPress Trac.
 I can reproduce the issue you reported even when deleting from the
 filesystem a featured image already set. Seems to me this is a clear issue
 of the new Featured image UI that doesn't take into account missing /
 broken images.
 I will move this ticket to [https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues
 The block editor GitHub repository], as all issues related to the
 Gutenberg editor should be traacked there.
