 +1, This is still very much relevant.

 I see there is discussion about a list of terms vs a returning all posts.
 Both make sense, but picking one and moving forward makes the most sense
 to me :)

 For my use case a list is better, but falling back on archive.php and
 index.php makes sense, so showing posts makes sense too.

 I'd say if taxonomies are ever built out to include things like featured
 images, then add a parameter to have it return a list or posts, and a list
 can be returned styled as a post, but with a link to the term's archive
 page.

 I'd add whatever default is picked could be applied to /author/ as I know
 many sites where /author/tolkien/ works but /author/ gives a 404.
