Comment:

 [59415] looks good to me for back-porting. I've tested trunk successfully.

 @dougwollison's use-case is indeed a possible side effect, of this change.
 I think the inclusion of the new `wp_img_tag_add_auto_sizes` filter to
 disable this functionality is a reasonable off-ramp for folks with
 conflicting custom implementations.
