 Hello @petergekko and welcome to Trac!

 Updates to themes (and plugins) never copy any additions (or changes) from
 the old to the new. This is by design, not a defect. If you want custom
 templates they must reside in a child theme. The child theme is first
 checked when WP is looking for a template, then the parent theme.
