 I completely agree @youknowriad.

 However, after creating a PR two years ago, I am still awaiting feedback.
 Sadly, I think this change needs to handle in core first and then get
 backported, as this means changing how the register_settings API works.

 Pinging @TimothyBlynJacobs @antonvlasenko @kadamwhite in the hopes we can
 get this one into the next release.
