Comment:

 I'm still interested in taking a look at this, but I am not actively
 pursuing it. Removing myself as the owner for now to avoid discouraging
 someone else to pick it up and run with it. Happy to continue reviewing if
 someone else does.

 Would be nice to get a refreshed patch on today's `trunk` into an open PR
 on GitHub so that all of the tests/CI workflows run.
