 Hi there and welcome to WordPress Trac!

 Threaded (nested) comments are optional in WordPress and can range from
 2-10 levels, but can also be completely disabled. If you disable threaded
 comments, the experience is just like in forums, as you describe it.
 Are you expecting some other behavior when disabling threaded (nested)
 comments?
