 The solution is extremely simply. I have created a PR with unit tests
 [https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-develop/pull/3448 here].

 I personally think that this small fix could make it way into 6.1 RC2 or
 6.1.1. I don't think can or should wait until 6.2.

 Thoughts @desrosj, @peterwilsoncc ?
