 WordPress.org uses custom post types for assets such as "handbook pages".
 The site has the Jetpack plugin which includes a URL shortener for wp.me.
 However, the URL shortener only works for default post types (e.g. posts).
 It does not work for handbook pages, etc.

 The code for enabling this feature already exists and is published here:

 Thanks to @eidolonight for finding the above resource.

 The marketing team recently needed a wp.me shortlink for a long URL for
 inclusion in a Twitter bio which has a strict character limit (and thus
 could not accommodate the long URL.) Having a shortened and branded
 (wp.me) URL would be ideal.
