Comment:

 I thought that at first too, but older browsers that don't support the
 `<picture>` tag should fall back to the `<img>` tag (with the `src`
 attribute set), so it should work just fine in IE 11.

 IE 11 will load the "default" image, but it should be an acceptable
 fallback.
