Comment:

 I'm not sure what you mean... It just has a border around it which is
 standard for active buttons in WP. Not sure if you can get any more
 subtle.

 Fading it to grey is difficult as you'd need to adjust the editor's
 toolbar position and that would be worse as it's extra movement (moving
 the whole thing up 32px). This has been discussed before.
