 Hey pbearne!

 I chatted with Helen and Scott about this. Basically, yes -- the part you
 mention was the primary bit that needed to be reverted.

 It's an important practice to make sure the previous patch is applied
 before continuing to make changes because it takes a long time to go
 through and diff diffs when things aren't clean.

 In the interest of this not missing 3.9, I worked with both of them to get
 it cleaned up and in. Please feel free to ping me in IRC if you ever run
 into questions. Thanks for all your work!
