I need a new ticketLet the quarterfinals begin! After a day-long break
that felt way longer, the World Cup is back on July 4 and the next round
is kicking off with an unbelievable match between two European rivals.
Watch the live stream below to catch all the action!
Over the past month, Brazil and Germany have asserted themselves as two
of the top contenders to win the 2014 World Cup, but on the Fourth of
July, only one team will move on. Will Karim Benzema be able to push
France onto the semifinals, or will it be Thomas Muller and Mannschaft?
Tune in to the live stream below to find out!
After suffering one of the most embarrassing exits in World Cup history in
2010 that included some team mutiny and brought shame to the entire
nation, France has become a clear-cut favorite to win the 2014 World Cup.
And where other superpowers haven’t performed on the pitch as well as
their pedigrees would predict, the French have been called a favorite and
have actually looked like one.
After winning their first three group stage matches by an astonishing goal
differential of six, the French raged on to defeat Nigeria 2-0 in their
Round of 16 match. However, you could argue that France hasn’t played top-
notch competition — Algeria, Switzerland, Ecuador, and Nigeria aren’t
exactly stalwarts — so they better be ready when Germany takes the pitch.
Because while Germany hasn’t always looked like the second-ranked team in
the world in this tournament, they have had stretches where they’ve been
downright scary. Not many teams could wipe out Portugal in one fell swoop
— that’s what the Germans did when they beat them 4-0 in the opening
match. And Mannschaft put on an absolute clinic in their third game
against the U.S., suffocating them to the tune of a 1-0 victory.
Then to get to this quarterfinal matchup, Germany had to take Algeria to
extra time, where they finally broke through to win 2-1. So the question
for this game has to be which German team will show up — the dominant one
or the puttering one?
