Comment:

 Ok, simply disabling WordPress SEO (https://wordpress.org/plugins
 /wordpress-seo/) fixed the issue, and so it appears to be unrelated to the
 WordPress itself.

 I'll report this bug to the developer of that plugin. Thanks for pointing
 me in the right direction!
