 Code which works in 3.5 and 3.7

 wp_schedule_single_event(time() + $offset, 'myplugin_check_status_event');

 ...

 add_action('myplugin_check_status_event', 'myplugin_check_status');
 function myplugin_check_status() {

 ...

 Does not work in 3.8 beta1, the action never fires.
