 alpha channel/rgba support rather than just "transparent" as a color
 definition. Transparency as a CSS rule is also a completely different
 thing :)

 Wouldn't it make sense for the theme/plugin processing the input to make
 it transparent if the input is empty and it's a sensible choice for that
 particular use? After all, a user probably shouldn't be able to set their
 text to transparent. To me, the effect for the end user is that there is
 "no" color, not that it's called transparent. Looks like it currently
 punts it back to `#000` when it's empty, though. That seems like behavior
 that should be changed or at least alterable.
