 I dunno....the chance of a v3 or v5 conflicting is so small that I doubt
 we care.  Heck, v4 is probably more than good enough.

 Using the URL of the wordpress blog should be sufficient, once it is set.
 Otherwise, you could use the MAC address, though I'm not sure how to get
 that via PHP.

 I don't think it's worth having a central registry, especially since it'll
 upset privacy advocates.  UUIDs are "good enough" for tracking stats.
