 GUID stands for [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guid Globally Unique
 Identifier]; the problem with the ID is that it's not ''globally'' unique.
 For example, both your blog and mine have posts with IDs of "24."

 Maybe we should hash the GUID to keep people from being tempted to use it
 as a permalink.
