Comment (by DD32):

 Theres problems on hosts where FTP is locked to certain directories.

 Eg. ABSPATH = /home/dd32/blah/dd32.id.au/wordpress/[[BR]]
 Root directory of FTP = blah/dd32.id.au/wordpress/ (/home/dd32 is not
 accessable or visible, it appears as /)

 In those cases WP attempts to use ABSPATH to prefix the access attempts,
 It should rely on {{{ $wp_filesystem->find_base_dir() }}} - I'm just
 debugging a bit here on a Dreamhost account.
