Few reasons to prefer twitter over general emails:

1.We don't often check the emails but we usually connected with the twitter
via web and mobile.
2.General emails are cluttered in the mail box and not much indexable. This
is the reason why we get the mails like "where to download the nightly
builds" and "how to check the compatibility of plugins". At least we can
tweet about the simple issues and within a short span of time we can get
possible solutions.

Note: I'm not saying that twitter is the solution and alternative for
emails, it can be used as a way to connect and collaborate. For example, we
can follow the fellows for their interesting shares, suggestions and
updates.

If Wordpress is on twitter (http://twitter.com/wordpress/) then I thought
most of the fellows are on twitter.
Check the list of Wordpress contributers

Yeah Google Wave is still in beta.
No alternative of mailing lists but we are talking about sharing and
collaborations.

Ps: If you think i'm wasting your time by useless mails then please stop the
discussions !
