Hmm i've had issues with that in the past as well.

Particularly with relation to the test cookie we introduced in 2.3

It did have some funky code that was setting up stuff in $_POST
regardless or whether or not it was a POST request.

Looking at
http://dev.wp-plugins.org/browser/wp-contact-form/trunk/wp-contactform.php

That dodgy code is still there :-(

I'll try and contact Ryan and see if I can get the plugin updated or
take over it's maintenance.
