[wp-testers] Blacklist Filter?

Using 2.3.3, I noticed something odd regarding spam and the discussion
blacklist filter; I've had the word "viagra" in the blacklist filter
for a while now (without the quotes, of course), and I understood that
any comment containing that string anywhere would be stopped -- no
questions asked. And I *thought* that check took place before Akismet
got a hold of it (it makes sense that a blacklist would be checked as
soon as possible to prevent unnecessary processing).

However, I noticed a spam email in Akismet's filter containing the
string "sildenafil-citrate-viagra" (without quotes); shouldn't it have
been blacklisted?

Also, I've heard that regular expression entries are allowed in the
blacklist; in my testing, however, that simply is not the case... What
are the rules for what can be listed on each line of the blacklist?
It'd be great to be able to, for example, block sh!t (spelled
correctly) without blocking "Shithead," which is a legit name (the
"th" being prn. as in "this").
