That this list continues to be popular disagrees with the reasoning -<br>
although there "are" other methods of recruiting WP-Pros out there, the<br>
fact that this mailing list is often used clearly illustrates that<br>
people still like hiring from this list, despite the alternatives.<br>

I'd keep it running - just my two pence's worth. That said, I know the<br>
odds of it being kept once a decision has been made === 0 - I just wish<br>
Automattic would learn to open up WordPress decisions like this for<br>
discussion with the community first.<br>

This decision has been floating around for a while. I remember hearing it<br>
discussed a few months ago in #wordpress-dev, iirc. In late June I'd<br>
started discussions with someone about expanding their job board for coding<br>
jobs partly because of this coming down the line. It just seems to be the<br>
trend.<br>

"back in the day" before the Internet opened up, everyone already had<br>
ways of communicating and socializing and publishing.<br>

Not sure how many lists you've used or for how long, but in my<br>
experience over the last 15 years of using the 'net, I find that 10's of<br>
thousands of tech people and potential customers prefer mailing lists.<br>
I'd bet that there are plenty of consultants on THIS mailing list that<br>
have gotten a lot of good business here over the years.<br>
<br>
Plus having a mailing list adds diversity. Not everyone wants to dig<br>
through a Web site.<br>
<br>
My opinion on closing this list is: -1000000000<br>
<br>
Bad idea. Bad for the WP community. Bad for potential WP users.<br>
