Hello!

I guess I know some of you on the list, but not everyone. I've been on
the radar a bit these last 2 years, but now that I'm actually making
more WordPress websites for my clients and getting involved in the
proof-reading of a French book on the topic, here I am again (I
thought I was already subscribed to this list, but seems not).

I live in Lausanne, Switzerland, and I'm a French-English bilingual
(since I could speak). http://climbtothestars.org is my bilingual
blog, and if you start from there you'll find me all over the place
online. I've been involved in language issues online more or less
since I arrived on the web --
http://climbtothestars.org/focus/multilingual is a good
starting-point.

What prompts this e-mail is that I recently noticed that the French
translation on WP.com is full of Québec terms -- "courriel" being the
most obvious, as a translation for e-mail. Now, debates over this kind
of thing can end up in editing wars, simply because there is no single
French, but regional varieties. It's a problem for me to get my
clients to use a site that says "courriel" everywhere, because they
don't understand that word -- just as it would probably be a problem
for my counterpart in Québec to get her clients to use a site which
says "e-mail" all over the place, when they use "courriel".

So, where do we start if we want to have regional flavours of
languages on WP.com? Like English (UK) and English (US) -- I'm more
than happy to take charge of maintaining French (CH).
