[wp-hackers] GSOC2013 Wordpress

Hello,
Myself Nitish, I am aspirant of GSOC 2013 and interested in wordpress. I
have worked with the themes sections of wordpress and have a fair
understanding of the code base.
I was going through the ideas list of wordpress and there is this idea for
"progress bar", I want to work on this idea.
I have the current developing code
base<http://core.svn.wordpress.org/trunk/> of
wordpress.
For developing Progress bar I have ideas:
1. Developing a function which will show the progress bar and hooking it
with all the required functions.
2. Developing a plugin itself.


It would be very helpful if anyone can guide me into this, and also what is
the pre-application requirement.
