Very true. I wrote a plugin called Plugin Register
(http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/plugin-register/) which in the
initial version automatically registered activations of my plugins.
Feedback made me change that policy pretty damn quickly.

If you want to know how people use your plugin make sure they are
fully aware of what data you are getting, and what it will be used
for.
