Stack exchange is great for finding solutions or asking questions. This list is usually more theoretical - has anyone considered trying x - than about sharing code snippets.

Well that is one way of learning, things are not always explained that well.
I ended up reading alot on this mailing list, googling and taking a look at
what others has done and how they did things.
Like others said knowing php in general will help a lot.
http://au1.php.net/manual/en/index.php comes to mind.
