[wp-hackers] how can one visually represent a shortcode in visual part of rich text editor?

I need to add some buttons to tinymce, inserting some shortcodes and
while displaying shortcode itself is ok, I'd rather replace it with
the icon. Is there any established way to accomplish such task?
