[wp-hackers] Odd last_updated Behavior

I've never observed this behavior in all the time I've been working with
WPMU and that's quite a while. I'm perusing the code of 2.9.2 at the moment
- the last version I personally downloaded - and I'm not seeing it. Not sure
where the change happened, exactly, or how to find out.

Regardless, somewhere along the line, the meaning of the value has changed.
And the purpose of having a list of most recently-updated blogs that
reflects the most recently published content is pretty straight-forward for
a multi blog environment. In fact, my blog being sort of a "newsie" kind of
thing more or less depends on it to run the front page. I'm much more
concerned with having this functionality and it kind of seems like it should
be a core function.

So, I'm just wondering if this was purposely removed and is there any plan
to replace it with similar functionality - in which case, I shall have to
figure out some alternate method like a plugin.
