@Chris: The thing I would worry about is if somebody posts or comments  
or makes changes to the production site while you're making changes on  
the dev site and then you overwrite.

That being said, I host my sites on WPEngine and the offer one-click  
staging sites. I don't know if they sync back to the live site or not,  
but it's worth shooting an e-mail to jason at wpengine.com to see what  
they're doing.
