[wp-hackers] Pluggable functions

Just to add a little to Andrew's response:

The wp-hackers list is a place for advanced development discussion
(hacking) and WordPress core discussion. This means it's not well
suited for general development discussion and support questions
primarily because a certain level of working knowledge of WordPress
and PHP is assumed.

WordPress doesn't have mailing lists for support and general
development discussion because there are better places for these types
of queries. The WordPress support forums and the WordPress Codex are
the main ones. These resources are much more user friendly and
accessible, and they show up right at the top of search results for
many queries relating to WordPress. These provide permanent, rich
resources that are easily accessible to everyone in a nice format.

In addition, the #wordpress IRC channel provides a great place to ask
and discuss development questions, though you'll often find that it
simply serves as an intermediary for Googling your query.

Now, upon saying all that, I appreciate that the wp-hackers Info Page
completely fails to communicate any of this to people (and the Mailing
Lists article on Codex isn't great either). This is an area that
definitely needs improving, but that's a subject for a wp-docs thread.
