Policing your trademark means preventing unauthorised use of it, in 
order to stop it becoming a generic word rather than one strongly 
associated with your product. As both of those references explain.

Forcing people to adopt your spelling is not required to protect a 
trademark. Even if it were, a spellchecker -- as with Apple's devices -- 
is a better way to do it, for reasons already rehearsed.

This trademark issue is a total red herring.
