[wp-hackers] Handling Plugin translations

When I make changes to the existing text passages or add new ones I add
the changes to the language files (with poedit) and contact the
translators. Then I wait for their translations. Some of the translators
are very fast. They submit the completed language files within a week or
sometimes until the next day. Because I add the changed or new passages
to the language files they have to change only these lines, too (that is
something that I had not figured out from the beginning).
When I have the completed language files I release the new plugin version.

But last I received language files for two additional localizations but
with the next version the translators vanished I have waited 3 week
until the first contact for the translation update and after a further
asking mail 2 additional weeks. I received nothing. No no short notice
that they had no time in the moment. Nothing.

I have not waited longer and pushed the new version but with the partial
old language files.

Now, I'm still not sure If should leave the deprecated language files in
the repository or not.

Wouldn't it be nice if wp.org would have a possibility for the plugin
author to indicate which translation is up to date for a plugin version
and a possibility for the user to download the plugin only with the
desired language files with one click?

BTW: My plugin is available in 4 languages. I maintain on translation
(the original plugin language and one translation). But of course I
would appreciated to have more translations for the plugin.

Regards,
Tim
