My name is Ninad Pundalik, and I am one of the many users interested
in applying for Google Summer of Code, 2009. Kindly review this draft
and post your suggestions/improvements for this idea.

My aim is to work on improving the user experience for images in
Wordpress. The idea has been suggested on the GSoC 2009 ideas page of
Wordpress as well as on this ideas page
http://wordpress.org/extend/ideas/topic.php?id=74, by LSabin.

I hope to do this by developing a plugin that implements most of the
functions as those found in this Organizer plugin
(http://imthi.com/organizer/), using JQuery and Imagemagick/GD,
alongwith PHP. Hence, to summarize, I'll be implementing:

(1.) Image(s) upload
(2.) Image(s) resizing, thumbnailing and adding of watermarks
(3.) A directory and image management module that allows the user to
copy/rename/delete directories and images
(4.) Image(s) framing, montages, sketch generation using Imagemagick or GD
(5.) A module to create slideshows of images that can be added either
on the sidebar or as part of a post, using JQuery for the animations.
(6.) Change the filenames in the post when a file or directory has
been renamed (this functionality may not need to be coded from
scratch. The Organizer plugin is very good at this)
(7.) Add support for multiple users and permissions, if time permits.

As the interface will be implemented using JQuery and AJAX, the user
will be provided with previews of the changes he is making, hence
improving the overall user experience. As a result, even a user with
minimal experience in processing images will be able to blog with
ease, without worrying too much about the nitty gritty of image
manipulation programs. Also, this will be a part of the Wordpress
interface, that he is so familiar with and comfortable in.

I do know that this mail is coming in quite late, but I was unable to
send this earlier. I apologize for the delay. This proposal has also
been documented on my blog ( http://ninadpundalik.co.cc/blog ).
